A two-time year-end number one, she had already spoken about her desire to get more match wins together and boost her ranking once again.
After falling out of the top ten last week, she said: “Unfortunately, the injury prevented me from staying there and doing my best. I have not been able to play in the last three months and many players have won many tournaments and earned a lot of points. Now I have to work to try and get back to those positions.”
Following her first round win in Cincinnati, Halep revealed she wanted to stay healthy and have the chance to win more matches, something she will now be hoping to do in New York at the end of the month.
“The main goal is just to be healthy and to play as much as possible, because I need the matches, official matches. Even if I practice a lot, home is not the same. To build the confidence, I have to keep playing matches. Hopefully I can win a few more.”
