The recently released season three saw an astonishing amount of drama for such a small town. Now it seems Virgin River could encounter another staggering moment, that could see Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) potentially lose her baby in the new season of the Netflix drama.
Virgin River follows the life of Mel, who relocated from Los Angeles to the small town in hopes of a fresh start.
As a Nurse Practitioner, she had taken a new role to assist the overwhelmed town doctor Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins (Tim Matheson).
It was revealed that she was also escaping her difficult past, as her late husband Mark Monroe (Daniel Gillies) had died in a car crash after the couple had an argument.
However, shortly after moving to Virgin River, Mel met Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and found love again.

This revelation resulted in Mel asking Jack for a child and when he stated that he couldn’t give her what she wanted the two ended their relationship.
Flashbacks provided fans with an insight into Mel’s marriage and showed that she had suffered a miscarriage not long before her husband died.
In fact, the couple were having a huge disagreement about IVF when the car crash that killed Mark happened, so Mel always blamed herself for his death.
Season three saw her undergo IVF during her breakup with Jack, using the frozen embryos she had with her late husband.

In the shocking season finale, Jack confessed he was confused and does want a child with Mel.
She in turn told him about her pregnancy and disclosed that the baby she’s carrying could be Mark’s biological child.
Virgin River showrunner, Sue Tenney, recently opened up about the cliffhanger finale and gave away a major hint about Mel’s fate in season four.
Speaking to US Weekly she stated: “With her history, her fertility issues and having a stillborn baby at such a late stage in pregnancy, you don’t know if she’s going to be able to.”
She added: “In the books, she does, but a lot of things are different in the series than in the books, but I would like to watch her journey of becoming a mother.”
When asked about the identity of Mel’s baby, Sue refused to give away any details but shared: “That’s something that we won’t answer until we get to the end of, if we get a season 4.”
Network bosses are yet to confirm the release of season four but express.co.uk will be updated with new information about its potential instalment.
