The DC Universe finally continues on the big screen this week as James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set for release in the UK on Friday, July 30. Queen of the South’s leading actress takes on a dramatic new role as Sol Soria, and the former USA Network star has revealed more about DC’s goriest film to date.
Alice Braga has promised comic book fans the revamped quasi-sequel The Suicide Squad will fully earn its R-rating.
The Brazilian actress stars as freedom fighter Sol Soria in the already acclaimed new action blockbuster which also features Idris Elba and Margot Robbie.
Although details about her character are being kept under wraps to avoid spoilers, she recently previewed her role in the film when she spoke to Wilson Morales of BlackFilmandTV.com.
She said: “It’s something totally new for fans. It’s a new character created by James Gunn.”

Unlike Elba’s Bloodsport, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and the rest of Task Force X have previously appeared in comics, Sol Soria won’t be familiar to superhero aficionados.
However, Braga is hopeful audiences will still be able to connect to the new addition to the DC Universe.
“I think she’s a bad-a** because she’s a survivor,” she revealed.
“And I think she really fights for what she believes, and that’s a powerful strength to have.”
Braga also teased the new entry to the ongoing DC slate of films could be its most violent release yet.
When asked about the film’s gore, she laughed and said: “Yes! I didn’t see it all, but I could sense it based on a couple of things that happened on set.
“I was like ‘Oh my God, this is really R-rated.’”
The Suicide Squad was directed by James Gunn, who was previously known for low-budget creature feature, Slither, before taking on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
From the looks of the trailers and first reactions from critics, Gunn has brought back those same sensibilities for DC’s second run at the comics’ scrappy team of supervillains.
Finally, Braga added: “James is not making a PG-13 movie!”
While UK audiences will get the chance to see the new film first, DC fans in the US won’t have to wait too long as The Suicide Squad will be coming to theatres on Thursday, August 5.
Queen of the South seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix. Season 5 is available on the USA Network in the US.
