Jack Woolley, an Irish taekwondo athlete, fell victim to a gang of thugs who, he claims, decided to randomly attack people “along the boardwalk”. The 22-year-old was punched in the face by one of the culprits and was taken to hospital where he has received medical attention. In his latest post, he gave his 27,000 followers an update about the incident.
Jack shared pictures of himself receiving attention from a paramedic, a snap of him in hospital and another of himself covered in blood while sat on a street.
“Thank you to everyone for all the messages to see how I am doing,” he began his post.
Explaining further, he said he was punched in the face before the culprit apologised and told him he got the “wrong person”.
Jack was left with a busted lip which needs surgery.

Jack also shared an update on his Instagram Story.
The athlete told fans he had now been in hospital for more than 14 hours and was waiting for surgery.
He also reassured fans he was OK and that his face “looked worse than it is”.
Jack concluded his post saying he hoped he would be back home this evening.
Today, a garda spokesman said: “Gardaí attended the scene of an assault that occurred on Grattan Bridge, Dublin 1 at approximately 12:40am today, Saturday, 14th August 2021.
“One man, aged in his 20s, was conveyed to St James’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident.
“No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.”
The taekwondo athlete’s attack comes after he competed in Tokyo earlier this month.
Jack was defeated by Lucas Guzman in his opening bout of the Taekwondo 58kg competition.
The Olympian fought back tears as he revealed his legs went to jelly and that “something didn’t click” during the competition.
Speaking to reporters, he said he was “devastated” about his performance, adding: “To be honest, I should have just hit a bit harder.”
