World-number one golfer Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the WGC FedEx St Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind. The decision comes after the Spaniard – who finished tied-third in last week’s Open Championship – previously committed to playing in the WGC event in Memphis.
Rahm’s decision to withdraw from the event was confirmed by his agent in a text message to the Commercial Appeal earlier this week.
He was due to tee up at TPC Southwind on August 5, however Rahm’s participation in this year’s Tokyo Olympics – which finishes just five days before play being in Memphis – has resulted in him surrendering his spot.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign so far this season, securing 12 top-10 finishes – the most in the FedEx Cup rankings – as well as claiming his maiden major win last month, winning the US Open by one shot at Torrey Pines.
However, it seems Rahm is now putting his FedEx Cup charge aside for Olympic glory as the US Open champion travels to Tokyo to represent his native Spain at the Games for the very first time.

Instead, Rahm will be joined by compatriot Rafa Cabrrera-Bello, who currently sits 150th in the world golf rankings.
Garcia’s withdrawal from the Olympics does however mean that the 41-year-old will play at the St Jude Invitational.
Rahm’s commitment to representing his nation at the Games in Tokyo sees him headline a star-studded lineup that includes Rory McIlroy, last week’s Open Champion Colin Morikawa, and last year’s St Jude Invitational champion, Justin Thomas.
